< RETURN TO GEORGIA ACADEMIC DECATHLON HOME Georgia Academic Decathlon GAD Showcase Speeches The students delivering their Prepared Speeches for the “Showcase” at the PAGE GAD Awards Banquet are not necessarily the Gold Medalists. Rather, these students received the highest score for their Prepared Speech. The overall Speech winners are determined by combining the Prepared Speech score with the Impromptu Speech score. Serving members in Liberty, Long, McIntosh, and Wayne < Back Mary Ruth Ray Membership Services Representative maryruth@pageinc.org Mary Ruth Ray from Glennville, Georgia, has been with PAGE since 1998 and has more than 30 years of experience in education. She began her service as a PAGE MSR in 2025. Mary Ruth is passionate about growing the teacher pipeline, which fuels her work with PAGE Future Georgia Educators (FGE). A former Tattnall County Teacher of the Year, she has served on the Southeastern Technical College Foundation Board of Directors and the Phi Delta Kappa International Board of Directors. Currently, she chairs the Tattnall County Board of Education. Mary Ruth and her husband, Chuck, love spending time on the coastal Georgia waters with their four children and five grandchildren.

She is a graduate of Tift County High School, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and Brewton Parker College. Laura’s career as PAGE MSR began in 2013. She loves traversing her 23-county district, meeting and assisting PAGE Members. She currently lives in Fitzgerald with her husband and two sons. Laura is an active Hurricanes Baseball Booster and past PTO President. She enjoys traveling, rooting for the Braves, and watching her children play sports.
< Back to GAD Home Georgia Academic Decathlon Elite Scholars Academy Finishes Sixth in Its Division, Georgia Academic Decathletes Earn Medals at USAD National Competition Once teams compete at PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon, it's not the end of competition for many of the students. They're off to United States Academic Decathlon® (USAD) Nationals! Georgia’s champ, Clayton County's Elite Scholars Academy , led the state delegation at nationals, finishing sixth in their division and bringing eight National medals home. In total, Georgia earned 13 medals at the 2023 national competition. The USAD national competition is divided into divisions by school size and by in-person and online formats. Elite Scholars Academy and Columbus High School (Muscogee County) represented Georgia at the in-person event in Frisco, Texas. < Back to GAD Home Georgia Academic Decathlon GAD Volunteer Information Volunteer for the 39th Annual GAD State Competition! February 21-22, 2025 Kennesaw State University Two hundred volunteers are needed to serve as proctors for Testing and Super Quiz, and as judges for Speech and Interview. Testing proctors monitor students during the event on Friday evening. Judges serve in groups of two or three for Speech and Interview presentations on Saturday morning. Super Quiz proctors monitor students during the course of the collaborative Super Quiz on Saturday afternoon. Training sessions are conducted on site prior to the competition. All events are located at Kennesaw State University. Maps to the competition site will be provided to all judges and proctors who sign up. Additional information about the events can be found by clicking the button for each event below. Schedule Friday, Feb 21, 2025 Testing Proctor Description - Testing Proctors monitor decathletes during the course of the testing event on Friday afternoon/evening. 2:30 - 8 p.m. Testing Proctor training and testing event. Dinner will be provided. Saturday morning, Feb 22, 2025 Judge & Timer Descriptions Interview judges should have strong interpersonal skills and relate well to high school students. A background or interest in interviewing would also be a desirable skill for this volunteer position. Speech judges should have good listening skills, be able to effectively assess communication, and relate well to high school students. Speech timers work in conjunction with the Speech Judges to time and record competitors’ speeches. 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Speech and Interview judges and Timers training and Speech and Interview events ( concurrent ) Saturday afternoon, Feb 22, 2025 Super Quiz Proctor Description - Super Quiz proctors monitor decathletes during the course of the Super Quiz event. 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Super Quiz proctor training, and Super Quiz event. She is a graduate of Evans High School and Augusta College where she earned her Education Specialist degree in Early Childhood Education. Kathy is married and has two children. She is a resident of Evans, Georgia in the Central Savannah River Area. She is an avid reader and animal lover. Kathy and her husband John enjoy traveling and being grandparents.
