COMPETITION FORMAT: Twenty-four(24) teams have been invited to compete at the State Championship competition. A random drawing will divide these teams into four divisions, I, II, III and IV. There will be five regular rounds of competition in the morning. At the end of the regular rounds the top two teams from each division will be seeded based on their win/loss record (and total points if needed). We will break for lunch. After lunch we will conclude with a 3 round single-elimination competition (with a consolation bracket – all 8 teams play all 3 rounds). The championship match will be held on stage. Awards will be given for all 8 teams participating in the final rounds.
ACCOMODATIONS: If you would like to spend the night (which is highly recommended for teams traveling more than two hours), you will need to make your own arrangements. Here is a link to the Milledgeville Convention and Visitors Bureau website. Hotels are found under the Hotels tab at the top of the page.
FOOD: Due to our venue there will not be any food available for sale during competition. You may bring bottled water and nutritious snacks for your team, but please note that the college does not allow open food or beverages in the A&S auditorium (our gathering place).
LUNCH: You may eat in the Georgia College cafeteria. We’ve been quoted a price of $8/person, but this is much lower than the price we’ve been quoted in the past. I’m hoping for some clarification on the price before Jan 21. I’ll email if we get more information. Additionally you may eat anywhere in town. If you are one of the top 8 teams, you will need to eat quickly to return to the A&S building for the afternoon rounds of competition.
PLEASE NOTE: Young children (below 4th grade) will not be allowed in the competition rooms. Please advise parents of this restriction. The spectators guide can be found on page 3 of the PAGE Academic Bowl manual. Spectators are not allowed to videotape or take pictures in the competition rooms.
Depending on the size of the competition rooms, and the number of spectators, we may limit the number of spectators allowed to view each round.
IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STAFF A LARGE COMPETITION WITH EXPERIENCED VOLUNTEERS. WE REQUEST THAT EACH TEAM BRING AN EXPERIENCED ADULT VOLUNTEER WILLING TO ASSIST WITH THE COMPETITION AS A READER, TIMER OR JUDGE. (This is “just in case,” and training will be provided if needed.)
PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR BUZZER SYSTEM AND STOPWATCH!
Please contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to the competition on January 25!
