"Teaching Struggling Students"

Leanne Maule is an REP teacher at Carterville High School, is the 2009 Georgia Teacher of the Year. As a student, Ms. Maule’s mundane, rote learning experiences in school challenged and motivated her to do it differently when she became a teacher. She believes that learning should be fun and that a hands-on approach for struggling learners works best. Hear her personal story and how it influenced her teaching style and beliefs.
 

 

 

 Toby Karten
"Embracing disAbilities in the Classroom"

Toby Karten is an experienced educator who has worked in the field of special education since 1976. Ms. Karten has authored several books about inclusion practices, which are currently used for instruction on many college and university campuses and schools throughout the world. Her latest book, Embracing disAbilities in the Classroom-Strategies to Maximize Student Assets, embodies her belief that every student is a winner, that every student should receive the highest quality of instruction and it should be delivered by a highly trained and prepared staff. She firmly believes that inclusion is not just a strategy, but a way of life!

 

   

Judie Haynes
"Getting Started with English Language Learners"

Judie Haynes has taught elementary ESL for 28 years and is the co-author and author of five books on helping classroom teachers with English Language Learners (ELLs). Her latest book is Getting Started with English Language Learners. She is also co-founder and content editor of the qaward-winning website everythingESL.net.

 

 

 

Dr. Bonnie Davis
"How To Teach Students Who Don’t Look Like You"

Dr. Bonnie M. Davis is the author of the best-selling book, How to Teach Students Who Don’t Look Like You: Culturally Relevant Teaching Strategies. She currently works with districts on culturally proficient instruction, literacy coaching and writing across the content areas. Her latest book, How to Coach Teachers Who Don’t Think Like You: Using Literacy Strategies to Coach Across Content Areas, has been nominated by Corwin Press for the 2008 NSDC Book of the Year award. Davis has taught English in middle schools, high schools, universities, homeless shelters and a men’s prison
