Three Furlough Days Included in Governor Perdue's Supplemental 2010 Budget
The supplemental 2010 budget submitted to the legislature by Governor Perdue January 15 contains cuts in state salary appropriations equivalent to three furlough days for the state’s educators. PAGE continues to oppose furloughs as a short-sighted approach to solving deeper and more comprehensive problems with the state’s antiquated revenue and school funding mechanisms. 2010 Supplemental Budget
Systems across the state are now reviewing their specific budget situations and considering whether to implement some, all or none of the additional furlough days. As with the first three furlough days, some districts may decide to use local funds or reserve funds to make up for the salary cuts and thus, not pass on furlough days to their staff.
